1. In 1622, Fu Jian city in Fu Jian province, a couple called Huang Kuei and He Geng Niang, who lived in the suburb of Ma Wei Go, went out on a small fishing boat one evening at dusk. They sailed along Ma Wei Go to the ocean to fish until midnight. They had a big load and they started to sail back home. Suddenly the fog started to fall and they could not see the way back. Until the ninth evening, the fog started to clear up and they could finally park the boat at the beach. This was inside the Da Go port and they built a straw hut to stay temporarily to continue fishing.
2. On twenty third of March in 1623, Mr. and Mrs. Huang went fishing as usual but in the last load they got a statue of holy god mother in their net. Everyone helped to build a straw hut as a temple to worship this statue they found. In 1679, it was given the name of “Tien Ho Temple”. After some time, there are more than one hundred families fishing and living there. They put their fishing nets at the beach to dry. In local dialect, fishing net is called “Ling A”. “Ling A” were put in straw huts, so it is called “Ling A Liao”.
3.In 1796, there was a bandit called Lin Shuang Wen and his lackeys everywhere. Some ignorant people was abet by them and they joined the riot. It caused countless injuries and deaths, so a very prosperous place started to decline and degenerate.
4. In 1789, the first holy god mother was degraded to be Jhu Sheng Niang Niang(Birth-Registry Lady). The position was taken over by the second holy god mother Chin Si Niang. After she took over the position, she showed people how powerful she was. She answered whatever people asked for and lots of believers came to worship her. She often goes out to save the suffered and the misery. Although there is a temple for the holy god mother, the statue is usually not there. In 1796, a statue particularly was made for staying in the “Tien Ho” temple. At the time, the temple was famous and there are more than three hundred families in this area. There was a well used by fifty families. There are seven wells in this area and the place is prosperous.
5. Sometime in between 1850-1861, there was this man called Huang Hao Ren from this area and he was extremely strong and tough. He went to Beijing for the Imperial Examination and got the title of “Jyu Ren”(a recommended man) in Martial art. At the time when he came back, he worshipped his ancestors and also invited the holy god mother to Mei Jho in Fu Jian province. After he came back from there, there are some local? gangsters used his name and do lots of bad deeds, robbing, killing, setting fires and so on. This was heard by the emperor and he was furious. In 1869, the emperor sent the decree to the Tainan county governor to investigate if this rumor is true. And it was. That contaminated the holy ground. Three months later, there were a few children playing in the temple and accidentally burnt down the whole temple. Luckily, the statue was intact. However, the second holy god mother was transferred too.
6.The temple was burnt down and got rebuilt in 1881. On March 23rd in 1896, it was holy god mother’s birthday and came back from Mei Jho two times. There were shows and fireworks for her. It was very jolly and thriving. Not long after that, it failed again and there was no hope to recover.
7. In 1915, Tien Ho temple was rebuilt in a different location which is on the corner of Fo Gong Road and Fo Jhong Road. Until 1953, the temple was rebuilt and renovated on No.25, Fo Gong Land, Ciao Ya Li. Because Tien Ho Temple was in the land readjustment area No 23. When the new roads were planned and paved, the level of the road was higher than the temple. It destroyed the Feng Shui of the temple, so the holy god mother sent her will to move the temple to the location now which is No 34 Tien Ho Street. This is the history of this temple.
